Urban Wargame Reviews

Fairly formal reviews based on a single formal play to identify game mechanics and to see how they play. Format roughly follows Peter Perla's "Model Outline of a Hobby Wargame Review" in The Art of Wargaming. Stars are out of 5 and highly personal based how much they might contribute to the PhD (and are changing over time)!

These aren't really Urban, but thought I'd put them here so I know where they are:

Games Played But Not Yet Formally Reviewed

  • Seize Warsaw - VCOW game, Offside in The Nugget
  • Flashpoint: Fire Rescue - tactical fire fighting game
  • Blockbusting - the Phil Sabin game
  • Rattenkrieg: Assault on the Tracktor Factory - postcard game
  • Shooting DaedelusKicking Doors - Evan d'Alessandro's CQB game

Miniatures/Measured Movement Games

Again not formally reviewed.

  • Buck Surdu's ACP164, with a great card-based resolution system
  • Force on Force/Ambush Alley
  • Ultramodern
  • Skirmish Sangin
  • Dropzone Commander - but used in a modified way in the Vertical Urban Wargame
  • GDW Traveller's Azhanti High Lightning (actually grid based)
