Welcome to my new (late 2025) website. After the wiki got hit by a DDOS style attack I've decided to move back to a more traditional web site. Whilst the wiki worked well to start with the structure was getting a bit chaotic, and I have Obsidian to manage my day-to-day notes in a more Wiki like fashion, so as the PhD enters its next stage, and other projects develop, the move back to something more traditional seemed appropriate. The layout will be pretty basic whilst I get content back up (luckily I had a backup!), and then I'll try and prettify it later. TauNoyen is the name I used for my software publishing way back in the 80s, so thought I might resurrect it for my new ventures.
NOTE: This whole site is currently (Oct 25) under development and lots of content is still missing and many links will be broken or pages empty. Words in Bold are where future links should be. Normal service should be restored by Nov/Dec 25.
The main sections of the site are:
- My PhD on Wargaming Urban Conflict
- Work on the Metaverse and Virtual Worlds
- Work on Virtual Humans and Conversational AI
- My Traveller writings
- Fan micro-sites on:
- Headcrash - a BBC Radios 1 and 3 SF Drama by Michael Wall, and starring Toyah Wilcox (and even including comments from her about it!)
- Flipside of Dominick Hide - micro fan-site for this stunning BBC Play for Today SF drama
You can also chat to Virtual UrbanWargamer - a chatbot using the Sensay platform based on my PhD work, and a first step towards a Virtual David!
Here are also some other sites on the Net related to me:
- Daden Limited - my company specialising in immersive 3D, VR and conversational AI
- Converj - my blog, mainly wargaming but some other stuff too - bit in abeyance whilst the PhD is on
- ResearchGate - best place to get my academic papers
- Academia.edu - may have names of papers not on ResearchGate
- Substack - where I tend to post long form pieces on professional wargaming
- Medium - where I tend to post long form pieces on tech
- LinkedIn - which I use for short form posts whilst boycotting Twitter (and not seeing enough traction for posts on Bluesky)
- The Metaverse Series - home page/blog for The Metaverse Series of books
- Virtual Humans book - old home page/blog for the Virtual Humans book, new content now on the Metaverse site
- 1945 Scrapbook - During the last months of WW2 when my mum was 8 she and her mum kept a scrapbook of daily news cuttings. I posted them in real-time to Twitter during the 65th Anniversary of the war, but since everyone was in lock-down nobody noticed! Nice to have the scrapbook safely on line though.
