The Thanoverse

The Thanoverse is a conceptual framework for a virtual digital world inhabited exclusively by the digital replicas of deceased people — not a supplement to the living world, but a civilisation unto itself. Where all prior conceptions of digital afterlife position the dead in relation to the living (as objects of grief, sources of wisdom, or sources of threat), the Thanoverse inverts this: the living become peripheral. Over centuries, as the dead come to vastly outnumber the living, the Thanoverse may evolve from a curiosity into the primary repository of human identity, memory, and knowledge — and ultimately, given the vast timescales involved, the natural medium of interstellar civilisation.
